Virginia cotton growers schedule Feb. 13 meeting

The Eighth Annual Virginia Cotton Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at the Regional Workforce Development Center, Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, Va. The timing of the meeting has changed from last year.

For the 2007 event, registration will open at 9 a.m. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude with lunch.

Organized by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Virginia Cotton Growers Association, Virginia Cotton Board, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, in conjunction with the Risk Management Agency, USDA, this event includes the annual meetings of the Virginia Cotton Growers Association and the Virginia Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation, as well as an economics and marketing meeting.

The agenda features several knowledgeable speakers. Steve Slinsky, senior economist with the National Cotton Council, will explore the Cotton Economic Outlook for 2007; Robbie Minnich, senior government relations representative, also from the National Cotton Council, will discuss Preparing for the Next Farm Bill, and Joel Faircloth, will present “Glyphosate Resistant Palmer Amaranth mitigation.”

The registration fee for the the meeting is $5 per person in advance or $10 at the door and includes lunch. Send pre-registrations prior to Feb. 9, 2007 to Virginia Cotton Growers Association, P.O.
