Marketing is corn meeting focus

The Georgia Corn Short Course and annual meeting of the Georgia Corn Growers Association is set for Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at the Rural Development Center in Tifton. This year's meeting, says Dewey Lee, University of Georgia Extension agronomist, will focus strongly on the different aspects of marketing corn.

“The majority of this year's workshop will focus on marketing. Our speakers will include economists from throughout the Southeast and also from private companies. For those who still are holding the 2001 crop, we'll look at alternative marketing strategies and government programs.

“We'll also hear about the outlook for the 2002 marketing year, and the pricing outlook for the 2002 corn crop. We'll talk about creating marketing strategies for next year's crop and what we can expect from new farm programs,” says Lee.

Afternoon sessions, he says, will look at best management practices for dryland corn production and effective management of irrigation on corn.

Also at this year's meeting, the Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Corn will report on research funded by the corn check-off program. In addition, awards will be presented to the winners of the Georgia High Yield Production Efficiency Contest.

Exhibitors will be on hand to provide up-to-date information on various products and door prizes will be given away at the end of the day's program. Lunch will be provided for those who are registered for the meeting. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
