WIFE members to focus on specialty crops insurance

Sen. Robert L. Waldrep, Jr, Chairman of the South Carolina Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committees will be the keynote speaker on Thursday, Nov 14th. Also speaking on Thursday will be James R. Little, administrator of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA).

Robert Wilkens of the USDA Risk Management Agency’s Valdosta, Ga., office and Guido Schnabel and Jim Rathwell from Clemson University and J. Powell Smith with the Clemson Extension Service will discuss risks associated with strawberry production and marketing as part of the emphasis on insurance programs for specialty crops.

Local agriculture producers are invited to hear Wilkens at 9:45 a.m. on the 15th and Schnabel, Rathwell, and Smith on the 16th at 8:35 a.m. The Clarion Town House is located at 1615 Gervais Street in Columbia.
