South Carolina Ag Council to meet Nov. 16

“Young Farmers in South Carolina” will be the topic for the Nov. 16 meeting of the South Carolina Ag Council.

The meeting, which will be held at the South Carolina Farm Bureau Office at 724 Knox Abbot Drive in Cayce, S.C., will focus on the trials, tribulations and successes of young farmers in South Carolina.

Several young farmers, including Bo Norris of Darlington/Chesterfield counties, Lee Hadden of Fairfield County and Carrie Dalton of Lexington County, will discuss problems and issues they have faced in their ag businesses, as well as their successes.

In addition, Council members will elect officers for 2007.

The Council will also hold their annual Holiday Fair, with guest producers and vendors on site to sell specialty merchandise. Some of the vendors slated to attend this year include Lily Givens of Tasty Treats, located in Leesville, Belle’s Place Farm from Pauline, featuring goat milk soap, Layfield Farm Cane Syrup from St. Matthews, The Farmer’s Shed and Tommy Thompson Honey, both from Lexington, and Paulette Miller’s Candles Unique from Columbia.

Friends and guests are welcomed and encouraged. Anyone who has an interest in South Carolina agriculture does not want to miss this enlightening and engaging meeting.

Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m. Registration at the door will be $12 for non-members and walk-ins. The registration fee includes a delicious Beaufort Stew lunch prepared by Wes Harris, retired from the state USDA Farm Service Agency.
