Primedia launches video production

Primedia Digital Video has launched Primedia Productions, a new production and digital media services company. Primedia is the parent company of Farm Press Publications, which publishes Southeast Farm Press.

The new division will consolidate Primedia Inc.'s production and new media assets in Dallas and Los Angeles under one company.

"Although Primedia Inc. has been viewed primarily as a print company, the company is one of the largest owners, producers, and distributors of video products in the United States," said Bruce Gamache, president of Primedia Digital Video. Primedia Productions has more than 100 employees and state-of-the-art facilities in Dallas and Los Angeles totaling more than 200,000 square feet. The company offers traditional and new media production services to producers of television, digital media, film, advertising and other video content."

Production services include nine studios, live productions, field productions, non-linear editing, animation, graphics, full creative support and satellite distribution services. Programming services include program development, content acquisition, and program distribution. Digital media services include encoding, webcasting, hosting, streaming, and digital content management.

"Primedia Inc. has substantial studio, production, and distribution assets," said Marc Krigsman, executive vice president of production and content, who will oversee Primedia Productions.

"Primedia Productions is uniquely positioned to be a one-stop production and digital media services company," said Tara Maitra, senior vice president of operations. "The company has the resources, technology and management to translate print and special interest publications into additional video and new media applications. It will enter into agreements with strategic partners in order to supplement its internal capabilities and offer a complete range of digital media services."

Primedia's cable television programs currently include American Baby, Healthy Kids, In-Fisherman, Low Rider, Street Rodder, and Super Chevy. Projects in development include collaborations with Automobile, Seventeen, and Canoe & Kayaking magazines.

Primedia Inc.'s other video operations include Channel One Network, the largest source of news and information for teenagers (its award-winning 12-minute newscast is seen daily by more than eight million students); Films for the Humanities and Sciences, which licenses and distributes over 7,000 educational video titles for classroom use; and Primedia Workplace Learning, whose business-to-business video networks include the Automotive Satellite Network, the Fire & Emergency Television Network, the Law Enforcement Television Network, and the Health & Sciences Television Network.
