Four state peanut organizations seek National Peanut Board nominees

The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, Georgia Peanut Commission, South Carolina Peanut Board and the Texas Peanut Producers Board are seeking eligible peanut producers who are interested in serving on the National Peanut Board.

The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, Georgia Peanut Commission, South Carolina Peanut Board and the Texas Peanut Producers Board are seeking eligible peanut producers who are interested in serving on the National Peanut Board.  

Nomination election meetings will be held throughout the month of March to select two nominees each for member and alternate from each area to serve on the National Peanut Board. All eligible producers are encouraged to participate. Eligible producers are those who are engaged in the production and sale of peanuts and who own or share the ownership and risk of loss of the crop.

The specific meeting schedule and information is as follows:

The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation will hold a nominations election to select two nominees each for At-Large member and alternate to the National Peanut Board during a meeting Thurs., March 1, at 10:00 a.m. CST, at Morehouse Parish USDA-FSA Service Center, 9600 Marlatt St., Bastrop, La. 

Eileen Jordan of Rayville, La., is the current At-Large National Peanut Board member and Micah Barham of Oak Ridge, La., serves as the current alternate.

Georgia Peanut Commission will hold a nominations election to select two nominees each for member and alternate to the National Peanut Board during a meeting Thurs., March 1, at 1:30 p.m. EST, at the Georgia Peanut Commission office, 445 Fulwood Blvd., Tifton, Ga.   

Andy Bell of Climax, Ga., is the current Georgia National Peanut Board member and Neil Lee of Dawson, Ga., serves as the current alternate.

South Carolina Peanut Board will hold a nominations election to select two nominees each for member and alternate to the National Peanut Board during a meeting Wed., March 14 at 12:00 p.m. EST, at Clark’s Restaurant, 114 Bradford Blvd., Santee, S.C. 

Bud Bowers of Estill, S.C., is the current South Carolina National Peanut Board member and Neal Baxley of Alcolu, S.C., serves as the current alternate.

Texas Peanut Producers Board will hold a nominations election to select two nominees each for member and alternate to the National Peanut Board during a meeting Thurs., March 1 at 3:00 p.m. CST, at Gruene River Grill—Wine Room, 1259 Gruene Road, New Braunsfels, Texas. 

Peter Froese Jr. of Seminole, Texas, is the current Texas National Peanut Board member and Jeff Roper of Lubbock, Texas, serves as the current alternate.

The terms for the current At-Large, Georgia, South Carolina and Texas board members and alternates expire Dec. 31, 2018.   

USDA requires two nominees from each state for each position of member and alternate. The National Peanut Board will submit the slate of nominees to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, who makes the appointments.
