This month, the ‘Focus on Cotton’ webcast resource, developed by Cotton Incorporated and the Plant Management Network, offers useful information on cotton protection and irrigation management for the Southeast.
“Irrigation Management for Cotton in the Southeast” by Dr. Wes Porter, Extension Irrigation Specialist at the University of Georgia and Alabama Cooperative Extension, helps consultants, growers, and other practitioners in the Southeast United States an even better understanding of irrigation management for cotton production and its benefits. Porter’s talk specifically underscores the importance of irrigation in cotton and irrigation scheduling. It also covers two brand-new scheduling methods available to growers.
“Foliar Diseases Affecting Cotton in the Southeastern United States” by Dr. Robert Kemerait, Professor and Extension Specialist at the University of Georgia, helps growers and consultants in the cotton industry better understand various foliar diseases that affect the Cotton Belt, particularly target spot, a relatively new and economically significant pest. This useful presentation provides answers the following questions: “What are the major foliar diseases of cotton?; What is their impact?; and How do we manage them?”
‘Focus on Cotton’ contains more than 20 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management. These talks--freely accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week-- cover agronomic practices, crop protection, and ag engineering. This resource also features a new and improved Cotton Extension Search tool, where users can conveniently search for extension resources across all U.S. land-grant universities serving cotton producers.
